Pülö: Bloodstream of the Kirike

Pülö: Bloodstream of the Kirike is a feature documentary written and directed by Christina Ifubaraboye.

The film explores the relationship between the Kirike people of Okrika and the environmental, cultural, and spiritual realities of life in the Niger Delta amidst decades of oil extraction. Through intimate storytelling, the documentary examines questions of memory, identity, resilience, and the enduring connections between people, place, and ecology.

IbifiriWari served as Impact & Engagement Strategists, supporting the development of approaches that connected the project to communities, stakeholders, partners, and wider audiences. Our work focused on extending the life of the film beyond the screen by identifying opportunities for meaningful dialogue, strategic partnerships, community engagement, and long-term impact.

As part of this work, we supported the exhibition of “how about the oil rivers?” This was an exhibition of images from the film presented at TEDx Port Harcourt Countdown 2025: The Next Now, creating space for reflection on the environmental and cultural realities of the Niger Delta. We also supported “To Feed Is To Remember”, a culinary tasting experience that explored memory, heritage, and the relationship between food, place, and cultural identity.

Beyond being a film, Pülö is a catalyst for conversation and deeper engagement with the past, present and future of the Niger Delta.
